Thanks everyone for the info on the DC3. Have printed that out for reference. Have checked my stocks and I have around 30 other DC3 stamps that do not show in the web listings so there are plenty out there.

For DC-3 buffs wanting to see the planes in operating mode check out the TV program Ice Pilots that centres on Buffalo Airways located in Hay River and Yellowknife in the Northwest Territories, Canada. Episodes also on Youtube.

Do you know if there is a chance of getting an original myself of that airmail envelope wt1? Would be a good addition to the related material I am collecting.

Allen

I have a request for a stamp. I am collecting stamps relating to the DC3 aircraft. I would really like to obtain, new or use, the French Southern and Antarctic Territories 'DC3 Basler BT67' issued in January 2012. If anyone has an example I would be grateful if you contacted me - an email would be best, see the profile page. Thanks, Allen

On 27 October 1939, after the outbrake of WWII the colombian government orderd the merger of german staffed SCADTA (founded 1919)and colombian owned SACO, to form a new airline: AVIANCA; replacing german pilots and ground crews by american pilots and colombian ground crews. The first DC-2s and DC-3s came from Panamerican, that secretely controlled SCADTA.
After the war, the number of DC-3s, mostly former USAAF C-47s, grew to some 63, including "Hi-Per" versions; some of which still fly with small air services from Vanguardia Airport in the city of Villavicencio covering the flatlands bordering Venezuela and the outposts in the Amazon Forest.
This cinderella was applied in the 1950's to the back of the envelopes carried by Avianca´s Air Mail monopoly "Correo Aéreo".

I've got a few hundred hours in the C-47 (DC-3). It is probably the mnost forgiving aircraft ever built. Almost impossible to put it into a situation from which recovery wasn't poxsible.
