Interesting, "ML Arrowhead" ....
The Boat Prefix ML is not listed in Wiki's list.
ML = Motor Launch
Only reference I could see was HMSML = Her Majesty's Small Motor launch.

Herm Island Pigeon Post

Sheet of 8 Sold Grosvenor Auctions £150

Flown by Pigeon Suggest Incorrect

Flimsies were attached to the Pigeons leg via Bakelite Tube
Also on May 26, 1949, a single stamp was issued to pay for urgent messages carried by pigeon post, as Herm did not have a telephone link to Guernsey until late 1949. Tenant A.G. Jefferies established a pigeon service which used special pigeongrams that recorded the address and message. These were rolled up and placed in a red bakelite tube which was attached to the pigeon's leg. The stamp was designed by Captain W.E. Birch and typographed by Waterlow & Sons Ltd., line perforated 10 in a printing of 10,000 (B&F #5). The 1-shilling black on orange stamps were printed in sheets of eight (4×2).

rod is correct to doubt the "cover". Note that that 1951 date of "use" is after carriage by pigeon was ended in December 1949 when radiotelephone service came on line (as already noted by rod). There was parcel service via ship after that for a while where the 1/- pigeon stamps were used up.

The tiny envelope/tag makes no sense without an address or addressee on the outside.

Herm Island stamps are local carriage labels. They are not listed in the GB Channel Islands and IOM catalogue that covers official issues from postal independence and wartime issues for the Channel Islands.

For all Channel Island Locals you need the Catalogue of the same name compiled by Jon Aitchison.

He can be contacted via The Revenue Society website - he is the librarian.

I am sure he will send his current list of items for sale, including catalogues, if you contact him.
