BeeSee, forgive me if I am a bit naďve, but why were they issued in 1991 but say 1992 on them? At least the first ones?

That is a good question Peter. To be honest, I did not even notice the 1992 date! Scott lists the stamp as being issued March 6, 1991. The PTT on the stamp makes it more in line with the later issues of 1992. Perhaps it is an error in Scott, or the stamp was originally printed with 1991, and later reprinted with a 1992 date.
Maybe I will have to redo my page when more information comes. |

Slovenia didn't proclaim independence until June of '91, so a March 1991 issue seemed highly unlikely to me. Checked my Michel catalog and it does give the March 6 date for the 5t value, except not in '91 but in '92 which would make more sense, also in light of the issue dates of the other stamps in this series. |

Quote: The first stamp of modern Slovenia. actually, the stamp you have in this position in your album isn't the first stamp of modern Slovenia. As discussed, it is dated 1992, as it was issued on March 6, 1992. the first stamp of modern Slovenia looks like this: Posta Slovenia has a wonderful website (in English) documenting every stamp issued (modern Slovenia). http://www.posta.si/stamps/1106?year=1991 (this link takes you to the 1991 issues. there is a pull-down menu in the upper right to view any year you choose. |

These are the first four issues of this series and have the date of issue on the stamps. The remaining stamps in this series were issued the following year, 1992 and do not have date of issue on the stamps. |

Slovenia proclaimed independence on 25.6.1991. On 26.6.1991 issued first stamp still in yugoslav dinars. The motive on stamp is Slovenian parliament (only draft of architect Jože Plečnik). As Slovenia has not yet been a member of the Universal Postal Union the use of stamp was not allowed. The stamp was put in mail traffic again 8.10.1991. To 25.4.1992 were still in force Yugoslav stamps. On cover is first Slovenian stamp with two yugoslav. |

The second definitive stamps of Slovenia, part I, 1993-94, Europe in Miniature.
This beautiful set must be one of the best modern definitives ever issued, at least since the 1990's. |

BeeSee, - on your page shown on 4/20/2014:10:34pm you have a mistake: the stamp in lower right corner (12.00, orange) is The Small Horse from Ribnica not wine press, see link: http://www.posta.si/postage-stamp/4...?nodeid=1106 - I see that stamp 44t and 100t are missing. I can send you them. - In 2006, Slovenian post office had to spend old stock of regular stamps in the Tolar currency because in 2007, Slovenia got new currency - the Euro and old stamps were no longer be valid. Postal workers are, therefore, in 2006, sticking to the letter the old regular stamps. For easier count they used the same 10 stamps, the difference to the regular postage they stamped on the label. Below are two examples of such letters. Unfortunately labels were printed in bad quality, printing has almost disappeared. (my english )

Thanks for the information Primoz. Nice covers too.
I have already corrected the "Wine Press" description and have added more pages and stamps to my used collection. I will send you a personal message, thanks for the offer! |
