I sold my Portuguese stamps a few years ago, and they are the only ones I regret disposing of. So why not indulge in a couple of boxes of Portuguese material? These are a mess. Mainland, colonies, covers, fiscals, charity ... all over the place. I also have twenty-five albums of cigarette cards to work through ... |

My last smoke was five minutes ago. Cigarette cards were produced in the UK between around 1895 and 1939, when wartime paper requirements killed them off. Sporadic issues after 1945 didn't really catch on. Issues began earlier in the US, but had, I think, largely ended by WWI, after Duke had lost his monopoly and no longer had to kill the competition with freebies.
My collection's chiefly Imperial Tobacco issues, plus pre-WWIi football-themed cards, plus other sets that I like the look of.

Three envelopes from France, containing a total of 25 picture postcards (some postally used, some not) that I bought on eBay and Delcampe. |

No stamps, since we're going to be at a small show this weekend, but my wife got her latest issue of Japanese Philately. Does that count? |

Was supposed to be two Big Blue albums (one 40s, one 60s) but the postman left the parcel key in the wrong mailbox again. I'm sure whoever actually got the packages opened them looking for valuables and trashed them after not finding anything obvious. That's three packages this month he's misplaced. Ugh
It's not even about the money that I'm out, really. Mostly upset about the couple thousand century-old stamps that made it this far only to be inevitably thrown away. It's no real big loss, I know, but still hurts a little. |

Coinsearcher83 --
I'd suggest two things: 1) talk with your local postmaster about these errors. 2) have future mailings insured, even if only for $25. Future losses will get further attention from the local postmaster.

Coinsearcher83,
There is no reason to put up with this. Suggest you contact the Postal Inspector if local officials can't help you stop this theft of your mail.

I'm still awaiting the second coming of a couple of auction lots. Last week, I received a photo from the courier, DPD, showing the package and the toes of a young lady as proof of delivery. Attractive, doubtless, but I'm a stamp collector, not a foot fetishist. After negotiating the frustrations of the courier helpline, I was told that the driver had recovered the parcel and would deliver it to me. No parcel appeared. When I rang again the following morning, I was told it had been returned to the sender, who was delighted when I called him. I suppose it will pop up again on a doorstep near me in a day or two. |
