I have seen references lately to stamps whose precancels are just given as "old type 2" and to types listed without a PSS number but with just "upper and lower case" (or something like that).
I think one of them might have been Jamestown N. Carolina, described as "capital + lower case"??
Does anyone know what this means and why there's no PSS number attached? Are they not considered "real" any more but were listed at one time?
There are some from Jamestown NC [and other cities] that were once listed in the old catalogs but have been deleted. They were collector/dealer created and had nothing to do with the post office or legitimate precancelling.
