Quote: How about the second picture of 9c, do you know if any of those precancels? I thought the top pair might be something I seen called "silent cancels" So we don't have to reference back to previous page of this thread, here's a reduced copy of the four 9c stamps you had questioned: The pair on the top row is just a typical period "killer" postmark (not a precancel). The first stamp on the bottom row is a precancel. It's hard to read, but I believe it is North Platte, Nebr. (although the printing is terribly off-center). The last stamp (bottom row right) is NOT a precancel but simply a "box cancel" as referred to earlier. It is from Bound Brook, NJ. The same elements apply as I previously explained: It is not a precancel because (1) the city/state name does not fit completely within the stamp; and (2) there are vertical lines in the postmark that easily identify it as a box cancel. |

I bought this book on eBay about precancels, yes outdated 1976, but still a lot of information in it on precancels, there is also sections on value of each issue, types of precancels etc. Picture below. Check out that Lansing Michigan cancel wow. I bought some precancels from a guy Kansas and Nebraska he was suprised I bought them as he said only Asian country's were interested in them, some are below in scans. The stamps I have I organized last summer into states alphabetically and intended to further organize into city alphabetacally ,as they are in the catalog I bought, what is here in scans is as far as I have it at present. If you have questions or comments I numbered the stamp scans. Also can make bigger scans of stamps if there is interest. Precancel catalog bought on eBay (A) Catalog page (B) precancel 1 precancel 2 precancel 3 precancel 4 precancel 5 precancel 6 precancel 7 precancel 8 precancel 9 precancel 10 |

WT1: I agree with your 9-cent identifications. It is a North Platte NE PSS-533, cv 0.25 USD - most of the stamps shown in this topic are very common - that is one of the joys of precancels - a lot of cool stamps for very low cash outlay. And, once in a while a rare one shows up un-expectantly. Larry Bruce - the Philadelphia on sheet 9 looks like a scarce item and maybe one other near the bottom. Can you rescan the bottom 5 rows with better DPI's? All: Keep posting those pictures! |

Larry Bruce: Nice collection of precancels. However, I think I spotted two stamps that are NOT precancels, specifically, Page 2, Row 2, Stamp 5 (looks like a box cancel; not a precancel) and also the example on Page 5, bottom row, last stamp.

Thank you to those who viewed and commented on the precancels I posted. Even though none of them is particularly scarce or desirable, I had fun this weekend sorting through and posting them. I think a person must enjoy it to some degree to go through the trouble because it is indeed time consuming. :) LarryBruce, You have a nice collection there. That said, and don't take this the wrong way, I'm a little confused as to why you chose to post it in this topic, one that's intended to help identify stamps that I have? In fact, I would kindly and respectfully request that you delete your posts, and move them to their own thread, which they most certainly deserve. I am new here and maybe this activity is allowed in this forum, but in other forums it's disparagingly referred to a "hijacking." Thank you kindly. |

Ah was posting the catalog reference for you.
I just added my stamps to show state/city how to organize alphabetical also for you to see.
I don't collect these I just sorted this way to get them out of my other collection items since there were so many.
i only posted after you got seemingly done and got some answers, but hey if I stepped on your foot or jerked your chain so sorry didn't know we were so rigid here.
Sorry for the intrusion.
Admin. please delete all I presented in this thread ASAP can't go hijacking the mans world ------>outta here...

No problem... Not trying to be rigid... After 9 or 10 pages it did seem intrusive... Apology accepted... You really have the making of a good thread there with the material you provided. |

Quote: I like the paperclip precancel on the one on the right... Hehe... That paperclip certainly wasn't my doing. Seems like the stamp collecting equivalent to binding old baseball cards together with a rubber band. |

The Philadelphia PA on 1 cent Americana stamp is the scarce one. It has a PSS cv of 80$. They often come damaged with clipped perfs or stained which reduces the value significantly. |
