Quote: The Philadelphia PA on 1 cent Americana stamp is the scarce one. It has a PSS cv of 80$. They often come damaged with clipped perfs or stained which reduces the value significantly. Hello chasa, Who is this comment directed to? There's a couple different people posting collections in this thread. Thank you! LarryBruce, I'm deleting my posts and moving them to a different thread. It will be easier for both of us that way. And no hard feelings my friend. It's not a problem at all. When I'm done I will rename this one for you. Let me know if Larry's Precancel Collection works, or if you prefer something else. |

The Philadelphia/Americana stamp was on page 9 of Larry Bruce's picture. I didn't intend to hijack the thread, but there were many themes going at once. |

Thanks chasa.
Dude JessEm chill out, they already gave you their responses on your stamps and you said you were done posting your precancels..and only then did I post anything. What more were you expecting on your common stamps?
I gave you reference to catalog and format of presentation with fine examples to show over time 10 pictures how it flows from state to state, not uncommon in these threads or to share material. YOU asked I TOLD. My response is as I wish it to be not as you want it to be, as anyone does on any post.
I could care less what you name this thread or if you move your material- why god only knows since they already responded to your common (precancel)stamps, your not going to get to many more responses. So if you do move your material prepare to be told the exact same thing as you were here and done posting and answered this thread and the next was/will be ready for the pixel dust bin graveyard.
You use the word hijack to loosely as I did nothing of the sort and as I said delete all ADMIN. I don't mind at all, rename as you want too ,nothing stopping you. Post wherever or whatever again, up to you dude. Friends? jury is out on that one but I don't have the match to burn the bridge you do.
You ask what I prefer to name the thread, how about "this thread is for my stamps only do not share yours no trespassing" my ball, my game, play by my rules or I take my ball and go home.....sound familiar..stomp stomp stomp...

JessEm I enjoyed the pictures of your precancels. Here are some of my Wyoming precancels: Im no expert by any means, I'm not even sure if all of them are legitimate, or even all actually precancels, but I like to collect anything philatelic that references my home state of Wyoming. Thanks for sharing yours, and happy collecting. I really am not trying to "hijack" your thread, and will delete if you wish. I am new, and cannot start my own thread yet, and the title of this one seemed appropriate. I hope you don't object to pictures of precancels (I'll limit it to 1 to be respectful).... |

It's all good, d307! Water under the bridge lol.
They look like precancels to me but I hate to comment given my own newness. :) Hopefully someone else will come along with more info for you! |

To add a bit on box cancels which masquerade as precancels, here is a box cancel from Spiceland, Indiana. Box cancels with short town names struck square-on can appear to be precancels on soaked singles. And here is a boxed roller cancel from Indianapolis. There are 5 (I think) rectangles around the circumference of this particular device, which can also give the appearance of a precancel when struck square-on and when the vertical bars don't show. This Indy roller is particularly interesting as the middle box on this cover has a typographic error in one of the 5 boxes transposing the PA as IndianPA instead of AP. And lastly, yes, these parcel rollers do get used provisionally as precancel devices (as do a lot of other regular cancel devices), particularly on postage due stamps. Provable only on cover, as on this example from Boston. Most precancel collectors I know collect box cancels and roller cancels for reference purposes. |

Gotta love that "Return Receipt Demanded" auxiliary marking on the Indiana Stamp Company cover. "Return Receipt Requested" sounds a whole lot nicer. More on that Indiana Stamp Company cover: The addressee, Dr. A.P. Mason, was a notable physician in Fitchburg, Massachusetts about a century ago. There is also indication that he was a stamp collector of some standing, having been a member of the Boston Stamp Exchange. It's always interesting when you can connect a face and biography to a cover, so here's the information on Dr. Atherton P. Mason: |

D307 - Wyoming has only 60 precancel towns so you have a great start. Pictures always appreciated here. |

Back on the subject of box cancels, here's one of my Boston, Mass. box cancels on a postage due stamp. I think it's similar to the one previously posted although in this case it appears overinked (blocking in the O's in "BOSTON"): |
