Thought that I would share my experience of Dewalders in the UK.

This happened somme about eight years ago and it totaly stopped
me wanting to buy from them again on principle.

I had ordered several lots of United States kiloware at a price
of over 100. The lots consisted of both on paper and off paper
and 19th century and 20th century in different lots. One lot of
off paper 19th century weighing around 4 kilos was absolutely
discusting. The bag that they came in, within a large box had
broken glass fragments, pieces of carpet fibre and so much dust
and other types of dirt in the bag.

The stamps were discusting to handle and I had to wash my white
gloves several time, until I just threw them in the bin. Why did
you not contact them about the problem, I hear you ask? I did
several times vie email and was fobbed off, until I felt that i
was being called a liar of which I stated in the last email that
i sent.

The rubbish inside the bag of stamps, my wife informed me was from
either sweeping up or from out of an hoover. If the lady from
Dewalders had just even apologised to me, I would have accepted the
apology and most likely still have bought sealed items like hinges,
mounts, books etc from them. I have never dealt with them since and
never would even if I could not get stamps from anywhere else in the
world. I would have sooner stopped collecting. I had dealt with
Dewalder, on and off for many years prior to this behaviour and so
had my uncle. He too was so discusted when I showed him the emails
that he too ceased dealing with them and he had spent thousands of
pounds with them.

Sorry this post went on so long, but even know I am still incensed
by their behaviour toward a valued customer, that they stated many
times in the receipts of my purchasers. I have only recently found
that bag of disaster a few days ago and threw it in the bin along
with the dirt, glass and rubbish within.

Not quite sure why you're complaining eight years after the fact.

I haven't bought stamps from Dauwalders, but I have bought a lot of accessories - binders, stocksheets, pages etc - and have found their service excellent and their prices, eg for Lighthose products, very competitive.

I was always bought up by my parents, to be polite to others no matter what
and I was polite in my emails to Dauwalders, but when you are perceived to
be a liar after having never having a problem before, is beyound my understanding.

If I had been a first time customer making a complaint, then even though it is
still not right to make a customer feel that they are being called a liar. I
would probably not felt so bad about the situation. But being a customer without
complaint for over 20 years, I felt that I was treated very unkindly. They were
adament from my first email, that they do not send out packages of stamps in a
dirty, poor condition. I asked in my email if I could send the package back for
them to take a look at and they just refused.

I have worked in complaints departments for several companys on line and on the
high street and the very first rule that was said to me by my managers, is that
the customer is always right even when they are really wrong.

Like you say Geoff, I should not be still upset after such a long time. Believe
me, I try to not do so, but when I start thinking of it I just feel exactly like
it happened yesterday.

I am indeed very sorry if what I wrote offended you in any way. The post was only
because the forum area asked the below:

Share your experiences buying stamps on paper in bulk, favorite suppliers and techniques

Purely for that reason.

I will now take your advice and hopefully never let it bother me again.

Had to laugh at the lighthose. lol.

It didn't offend me at all - it just didn't match my own experience. Don't worry - I've got plenty of long-running resentments!

Such as Lighthose not supplying you with hosiery?

Bimbo that lot sounds revolting! What a shame they did not have better customer service for a returning customer.

I agree with you, to be honest. If that's how you were treated, don't deal with them again.

Jenny

Well, as they offer bottle-top and champagne-cap collecting albums, you'd think they'd do cotton socks as well.

Has I still have the packet with the stamps that I decided to keep,
i was wondering if any of you here would know how to clean them so
that the feel of the dustiness can be removed. I got the packet out
last night and they do feel very dusty, but there are some that I do
wish to keep. there are quite a lot with the word "Station" on them
followed by a capitol letter. This is the first time that I have
taken a good luck at them, so if someone knows what they are I would
love to know.

Thanks guys and gals.

Bimbo, instead of using the "quick reply" box at the bottom of the thread, use the link that says "reply to topic" just above it. There you will have the option to upload an image.

Tell you the truth I have purchased quite a few bulk lots of KGV's that could be called worse than discussing.

Things can change if we think outside the square!

So out comes a bit of detergent, cold water and a good soaking then presto they shine and sparkle like new again.

Oh how I miss those lots.....The treasures found.....Clear watermarks as they dry.....The sense of achievement after rescuing a big chunk of the past.....Bring those grubby lots on......

Thanks for the help on uploading pictures.
Below is the scan of the stamps that I was refuring to.
I presume that they relate to railway stations, but have
no idea if I am correct. This is just a few of them.

It will be interesting to find out what these cancel are truly all about.

I do not know anything about US stamps let alone cancels.

But my guess is the stations and annex are PO processing areas more than trains but what do I know.

This could be a better post in US stamps or in the main forum.

Great to see you got the posting images worked out.
