My apologies if this topic has already been covered; I used the search function and could find no mention of World AIDS Day stamps and affiliated items.

I'm doing some research for two Web sites and would appreciate seeing discussion about HIV/AIDS as depicted on stamps of the world. I'm especially interested in information on stamps that have been released recently (say, since 2013.)

Many thanks to you all.

KGB hello and welcome!

While I have nothing recent, I do have this rather striking Yugoslavian 1988 stop-AIDS maxicard.

I'm pleased to see that some folks are interested!

It's interesting to see that the HIV virus that so many of the stamps display isn't accurately illustrated. The incorrect version with spikes looks more menacing I guess!

The virus on the Algerian one looks like a mace, but it's reasonable that threatening won out over scientifically accurate. (I could say that the virus looks like a dryer ball, too.) The Jugoslav one is definitely threatening; the message is in English, which I find a bit odd.

22, thanks very much for the reference. I am familiar with the site and am very impressed with the Webmaster's knowledge. I wrote him and he explained that he hadn't had opportunity to update the site recently. If there [i]have[/] been AIDS-related stamps released since 2013, I'll certainly share the information with him.

World AIDS Day
December 1, 2005
World AIDS Day, designated December 1 every year since 1988, is dedicated to raising awareness of the AIDS pandemic caused by the spread of HIV infection, and mourning those who have died of the disease. Government and health officials, non-governmental organizations and individuals around the world observe the day, often with education on AIDS prevention and control. World AIDS Day is one of the eight official global public health campaigns marked by the World Health Organization (WHO).
