Here is Captain Sir Thomas Moore (30 April 1920 – 2 February 2021), more popularly known as Captain Tom. Celebrated here among COVID heroes in a 2022 UK issue. Earlier, while still living, he had the distinction of a UK postmark celebrating his 100th birthday back in 2020 as noted in this Evening Standard article: https://www.standard.co.uk/news/uk/...4424526.html This stamp came about through a large competition for a set of COVID heroes and was designed by a student, Shachow Ali. See coverage at https://www.deeside.com/designs-by-...competition/ Prince Charles apparently was the final judge. Anyway - here's the stamp as issued in March 2022 by the UK.... It turns out this was not Cap't Tom's first philatelic appearance. Chad beat the UK with these 2021 issues focusing on his knighthood honors. |
