Geodesists measure and monitor the Earth to determine the exact coordinates of any point. Here is an image of a stamp depicting the terrestrial globe atop the Office of Standards tower, Vienna, designed by Ferdinand Dorner (1925- ), combined engraved by Kurt Leitgeb (1939- ) and photogravure, and issued by Austria on September 1, 1982 to commemorate Geodesists' Day, Scott No. 1220.

Paul Marie Ghislain Otlet (1868 – 1944) was a Belgian author, lawyer, and entrepreneur. He has been considered the father of information science. He created the Universal Decimal Classification, he also created Mundaneum to collect and catalog information from the world.
The background of the souvenir sheet features drawers of the Universal Bibliographical System bibliographic index cards and a large globe.

The 400th Anniversary of the Gregorian Calendar
November 23, 1982
The Gregorian calendar is the most widely used civil calendar in the world. It has 97 leap years in a 400 year period.
The set of three stamps feature a detail of the Pope Gregory XIII's tomb, carved by Camillo Rusconi, which shows the Pope being presented with a plan for what would become the Gregorian Calendar. A man standing beside the Pope points to a globe.

The Globe in a very modern setting by Jean-Paul Veret-Lemarinier for the Europa stamp of Monaco. Europa stamps of 2006 had Integration as a common theme.
