Meissen Porcelain - 250 Years of Blue Onion
April 18, 1989
Meissen porcelain is the first European hard-paste porcelain that was developed in 1708. The production of porcelain at Meissen, near Dresden, started in 1710 and continues today. Its signature logo, the crossed swords, was introduced in 1720 and is one of the oldest trademarks in existence.
Blue Onion, a fine china design pattern for tableware, was manufactured by Meissen since 1739. The stamp set shows a tea caddy (18th Century), a vase (1908), a breadboard (1855), and a coffee pot (1745).
