One of my favourite US stamps from that particular year.
Never seen this perf! thank you BeeSee for good insight about this matter.

Im very excited since also in Estonia we are likely try new perf' styles in near future.

Thank you to everyone who has posted information to this thread. I find it quite beneficial.

In regards to how many examples exist, there must be quite a few. I now possess three of these Purple Hearts with the die cut variation and the extra 1mm of width. (My source of stamps provides thousands annually.)

Very interesting.

Bluejay2's last two examples have a small "step" in the middle of the misplaced die cuts. This created a short imperforate area which is recognizable because it is torn during stamps' removal from the pane.

Yhe left and right die cuts were done at 2 different stations (the left and right thirds of the web at one station and the middle third at another station) and there was a misalignment that left the imperf gap (this is the largedst misalignment I have ever seen)
