I bought the essay as part of a generic dues lot that had something like four other dues from that series (I can't remember for sure, under $5 though). When I looked it up in Scott they said 'essay, worth $70'. I thought that was a pretty good deal. The next year Scott had it at $700 and then $1200, and then... I haven't ever seen another as well centered, though four or five of them have shown up for auction at ISFILA over the years. I believe the changes Scott has made to the pricing reflect the ones sold by ISFILA during that period, since I haven't seen any offered elsewhere.

All fairly easy...
Scott #112, 1901 20 para for domestic postage, rough perfs
Scott #355A, 1916 overprint on 20 para issue from 1898
Both Scott #288, 1915 overprint on 10 para issue of 1892
Scott #291, 1915 overprint on overprinted issue for 1897
From two different sets (notice the writing under the tughra) Scott #163 1909 issue with overprint for discounted use by merchants to foreign destinations, and Scott #128, 1906 issue with same overprint type.

Nice to see you collecting Turkey Manukado !

2 things to look for with beginners
1. The shape of the star (6 pointed and 5 pointed)
that will direct you to a year period
2. As of the last 2 stamps, the text under the Tughra, one has a gap, the other not.
This used to catch me out when buying online with poor images.
Always check that gap for Scott "Type" ID.

I am not sure I will collrct Turkey yet because at the moment I am sorting some acumulations of stamps. In case I do start it will be from beginning untill ww2. Modern turkish stamps just do not appeal to me.
