The damaged you spotted in top right and bottom right appears to be practically everywhere next to the postmark. You can see it also in the middle in the cresent and in the pearls surrounding the cresent. I would say it is something running from the ink.

I chased it up in Birken, but could not find any reference.

My ability in Birken is "challenging" to say the least.
I sometimes meet with this in Monographs.

When one deals with current country catalogues
we begin to expect Year, type , number and then details.
Simple straight forward stuff.
Birken seems to jump all over the place, he started with the 1 piastre
in the 1870 issues.
In time, no doubt I'll get my mind around it.

Isfila was very limited in this issue.

The left hand overprint, the horiz stroke under the "Y" looking character, is rather weird, perhaps an EFO.

I purchased this collection at my local stamp club auction as there was not much interest in it. As I know nothing about Turkish stamps (I only collect US classics) I am not sure if this is a run of the mill collection or something worth saving or perhaps even building on. It appears that some stamps have been removed, probably those with some value to them. I tried selling a souvenier sheet from the album through ebay but there were no takers, not even a watcher so I do not have high hopes. All the same, here it is

What did you pay for them?
then we can get some understanding of where you are at.

In my opinion, it is a cracker collection, looks like all mint, hinged.
At the right price, I would have snapped them up.
but, again, price determines desirability.

It is not run of the mill.
We all expect some stamps removed from pages, that's normal.
It is worth saving, but depending on what time frame you would adopt,
determines the depth of the collection.

I collect to 2012 and have 9 stamp Albums, chock a block,
so it can become a vast enterprise.

My apologies, I am new to this. I have added some more images of the collection, I found the earlier stamps were stored in a different envelope, along with some of the missing stamps, so now you should be looking at the complete collection. I paid £100 for the collection, and I am unsure as to if I overpaid or underpaid.

You underpaid, you snagged a bargain.

I have only taken a cursory look, and had to assume the lowest grade (hinged)
so MUH adds meat to the value, (If they all are)

I took advantage of the Aussie dollar at par greenback, some 10 years ago
so paid about $250 all up for my more extensive collection.

It takes huge amounts of time to assess Turkey, but a simple glance at your 1909 25pi and 50pi ( if genuine ) have a catalogue of $500

I always assess at 25% of Scott ( I may be out of date these days with inflation)
but still hold to that

I think yours are splendid, but Turkey is a passion of mine, you shall need to access buyers like me, and perhaps place them with a good auctioneer for best access to Turkish collectors.

Looks a very good lot. In terms of money, the drawback - as, I suppose, you found in securing it - is that Turkey is among the less popular countries amongst collectors in the UK. 10-15% of SG CV would be a rough guess.

What auctioneers have you found in Sussex? I bought a couple of decent lots of cigarette cards from Twomey's, but gave up on them as they don't pack and post items. Good news for locals, though!

This was at the local stamp club auction. You mean Tooveys Auctions. They get good prices and commission plus tax is 29%. There was no interest in the Turkey lot, it looked clean so I purchased it. It looks like it originated in Turkey as the pencil notations are in Turkish. Lord knows how it got to Eastbourne. I am now stuck with it.

Yes, Toovey's! I still recall the abuse I and other drivers received from my chauffeuse as we tried to find it. Had to mollify her with a decent pub lunch.

I no longer have a Turkey collection, but enjoyed assembling it and sorting out the overprints etc - basically just used an old Gibbons Europe catalogue, which did the job. Enjoy!
