I am a bit puzzled as to where respect and sympathy comes in when a nationalist president with dictatorial tendencies imposes a local name convention on other countries. If this has anything to do with respect, please, stop calling my country Holland or (the) Netherlands. The first is two provinces - like calling Spain 'Castile' - and the second is not how we spell or name it. Our stamps do not read 'Netherlands.' Also the name of the country is singular not plural.
On the other hand, we can just accept that Dutch is not the official language in most other countries. - And since I am from Holland, I shall not object too strongly about confusing the region with the country.
