Hello Group,

I am new to this particular forum and have some questions about the subject stamps. They are King George VI issues and there are 14 stamps in this 1937-1949 set. The first stamp in the set is is a kangaroo, Scott design A24. My first question is: Does anybody know what the Scott numbers are for these stamps?

My second question concerns definitive issues 1938 to 1945. Most of the stamps in this 14 stamp set are identical to the earlier set, starting with the 1/2 p A24 design. I think the perforations are different from the first set; but once again; I do not know what the Scott numbers are for this second set.

Thirdly, there is a six stamp set 1948-1956 starting with the 1/2p A24 kangaroo. These stamps are of the 1937-1949 design but are unwatermarked. I do not know the Scott numbers for this set.

Your assistance in helping me to identify these stamps would be most helpful to me.

Thanks,
Jack Kelley

Do not understand your groupings.
This set is very complex.
I can assist if you contact me by email.

Basically, Scott approaches these stamps in 3 groups
1937-1946 (14 stamps) + varieties
1938-1942 (7)
1948-1950 (3)

With respect, if you are beginning an Australian collection,
perhaps consider buying the "Australia" portion of the guy that cuts up Scott Catalogues ?
Not sure of pricing, but possibly under $20

rod222,

Thank you for responding. Would it help if I indicate the image description? For example, the 1/2p kangaroo is A24. I agree that this is confusing but I want to "fill" the boxes in my Palo album.

Jack

Jack

I thought you were using the SG catalogue, which, as far as I know, the Palo albums follow in a simplified form?

Hi Group.

I am back onto these Australian definitive issues and have done some research since the last time we talked.

Rod, Yes, these issues are confusing.
Geoff, I am using Palo which, I think, follows SG.

If I look at a SG catalog, I see SG #'s 164-178; 14 stamps. This is the first grouping in the Palo catalog. They all appear to be perf 15 X 14. It seems the Scott numbers are 166, 167, 168a, 169, 170, 171, 172, 173, 174, 174, 176, and 177-179. All are 14 X 15 except 177-179 which is 13 1/2 X 13 1/2.

I would like to confirm these Scott numbers as the 14 stamp set (1937-1949) in my Palo album. After that, I'd like to confirm the second 14 stamp set (1938-1845); and then the seven watermarked stamps (1948-1956).

Please be patient with me. I am really confused.

Jack

Scott lists the 1937 - 1946 set as #'s 166 - 179 with a few different perforations. 13X4,14X13,15X14 on some and 14X15 on some. It's the 150th anniversary of NSW and the high values for the set are the coronation robes 5/-, 10/-, and 1. For example the illustration A24 d Roo lists the numbers as follows.

#166 P 15X14 (1942)
#166a P 13 X 14 (1938)

Both with watermark 228.

Thank you Stalizer. If the Palo lists 14 stamps 1937-1949, would they all be 14X15 (except the high value)? And would the 14 stamps in the 1938-1945 be 13 1/2X14?

Renden, I am using the Scott catalog.

Rod, Are you still there?
