Same scenario where I live. In the 1890's local post distribution was done four times daily, and a letter could potentially reach the receiver within hours. Today it takes two days minimum, and it is called progress!

Looking to wrong place for progress? Sending an email takes seconds.

I have always felt that the internet is the next generation of postal systems. First generation was people carrying written messages by carrier between local towns. Second generation was prepayment with stamps and the Universal Postal Union. Third generation was implementation of postal codes and bar codes. And now we have the fourth generation; digital online transmission.

That is really a great way of looking at postal systems Don. May I add one more step? Living here in the States it appears to me that the first generation was the smoke signal? Mostly kidding of course!

I think that looking at postal systems this way offers an "in" for introducing philately to younger people i.e. "The Real History of the Internet"! Of course this might upset Al Gore.

Does anybody have a catalog reference for stamps used on Rodrigues Island? B64 cancellation for stamps used on Seychelles are listed in SG and Scott, not so for Rodrigues Island.

All I can find in my SG Commonwealth is this:

And in Michel:

None of this is to much help. Does anybody have any detailed reference?

Thanks a lot Cjd - I had already found that website myself. Interesting - however not exactly what I am looking for.

I'm hoping to find a reference for which classical Mauritian stamps were in use - and if possible a scarcity indication for each. Scott and SG are listing such for B64 - with dedicated catalog numbers. I would believe something similar should exist also for Rodrigues ? Probably in a speciality catalog for Mauritius. Anyone?

Blaamand, the stamps arrived yesterday, they are just fantastic, thank you so much. The beautiful cover enclosing them looks similar to the one Renden received. Well done!

I suspect that the catalogues do not list Rodrigues cancels, as the island has always been part of Mauritius. Unlike the Seychelles, B64 is a "forerunner", in others stamps of a different territory being used there until it issued its own stamps when it was separated from Mauritius.
