Geoff / Blaamand,
Slipping into Postmark collecting, really wasn't a concious choice, until I had sufficient of 1 country to entertain the thought.
It's a bit like when you begin stamp collecting, you start with all countries, then gradually tend towards a certain country / region, possibly as that collection becomes more advanced and filled.
I was buying cheap Ghana packets, and found that 1d (1 penny) issue more and more, with clear strikes, so it was a no brainer to collate them on a page, it then becomes fascinating to get up maps of Ghana and find out these villages and towns.
Probably the 1d was the rate or part rate of domestic mail in the 1960's
I need a specialist to confirm.
I don't see a problem with storage, one only needs enough cash, and room
to afford a steel stationery Cupboard, they are approx 6 feet x 3 feet
Steel shelves, Lockable, and will hold 100 stamp albums

I was buying the (2nd hand) cupboards for around $60 in 2003
Tip: Save all your postmarks of your desired country, plop 'em into a glassine
then one day when you have 40- 60 examples, lay them out on your desk,
and arrange them for clarity and attractiveness,
this will guide you as to what qualifies to appear on your album page.

Where to draw the line
Best to avoid this question, as the line will always shift depending on your circumstances.
I would suggest, the line best to follow is the budget one sets, to suit one's wallet / purse.
I try not to deviate from my spend budget.
If I get snaky about my lack of funds as I save for a better collection, I'll buy some
cheaper packets (Ghana etc) to get me by.
