On the 90's I was collecting Postal History of the Baltic republics and those vending stamps ring me a bell. But, I hasn't been able to find any postal item bearing them, nor found on my early 90's Lithuanian stamps catalogs. In addition, face values look too high to. On October 7th 1990, face values were 5, 10, 20 and 50 kopecs (cents of ruble). After 1993 stamps bear denomination in "Lita". On 195, we see stamps of 0.40 and Lita. So,imo, vending stamps should from around year 2000.

Nice Material Brian, any indications on how you think they are genuine? I cannot find any information, and mine look like forgeries, not that I would know though. On the date of issue, the 2.70 litas stamp, paid for a registered letter inside Europe. I received this letter, shortly after the issue of the vending stamps. Note: I upload the whole letter, as I don't longer live on this address. |

Lovely cover Joan, nothing quite like a philatelic article showing genuine use. A keeper. I had difficulty trying to source an image of the Machine. One has to use text strings "ATM" (which brings in bank teller machines) or "FRAMA" or "KLUSSENDORF" "KLUESSENDORF" For fans of FRAMA etc http://personal.inet.fi/koti/tauru/kvint/atms.htm |

Rod, the Lithuanian framas were used/value-printed on the Kluessendorf 847 machine, which is the 3rd generation device, according to my Michel Automaten-Marken Catalog. The 847 machines were used by postal clerks, rather than the general public, and there were only 4 values you could purchase in 1995 when the stamps were issued. On January 1, 2000, when the machines were last updated, you could purchase 6 different values.
If you collect computer-vended stamps, the Michel catalog is a very nice resource. Before the worldwide listing of stamps, Michel has historical information on the various corporations and their equipment involved with atm stamp production. There is also a glossary of specialized terms applicable to these stamps. |

Thanks Bob, putting your commentary on my Album page.
Thanks for not exposing my mis-spelling of Kluessendorf.
Sorts one issue I had, one link showed a 400 litas issue, and I thought that a mistake, but your explanation covers that.
Not a big collector of ATM's, I am trying to source the early Argentina Frama, one of the rarest stamps, fetching $200 on ebay for block of 4. So that gap will remain.
I have noticed some ATM collectors get hot under the collar, when we call Kluessendorf ATM's "Framas" Frama is the Swiss machine/s.

Quote: any indications on how you think they are genuine? Rod the Kaunas issues were not forged like the Vilnius issues. Also I trust the person I got them from . Here are the first modern Lithuania stamps, with simulated printed perforations on the second printing: Scott 371-74 Scott 371-72 Unlisted shades Scott 375-78 |

It is interesting in that the 2nd period first issues of Lithuania are almost as crude as the 1st period. |
