In my family, a big old chest has been passed down the line, up until now, my grandma died 5 years ago and the chest came down into mine and my brothers possesion, We have found letters dating back to 1908 / 1918, and on those letters were 2 cent george washington stamps, I can post pictures of them on here, Does anyone know of the value of these stamps? I notice some on eBay are going for between 5 dollars, to 500 dollars, to 5,000 dollars, we also have one stamp from 1908 that says newyork on it but we do not know what kind of stamp it is or if its even worth anything, I can take more pictures if needed, please help us identify these, these were my great great grandfathers stamps. Also, in the process of me typing this up, also found some 3 cent statue of liberty stamps from 1950s. We also have many more stamps, that are still on the letters, some dating back to the 1900s, We are still going through the chest and putting them in envelopes to keep them safe. Any information at all on the value of these stamps, or any knowledge you may have on the stamps would be much appreciated, I will post more screen shots as I find more stamps.

I will not, we've already made the mistake of removing 4 of those off the other envolopes, but we got these two still attatched to the envelope and they will not be taken off

We have more stamps as well, they were falling off very old and rotten envelopes, but the stamps we're in good condition, I am fixing to post those as well. We have all the letters that the stamps came off of that we took off on purpose not knowing that we shouldn't take them off

It is likely that the stamps have far more historical and sentimental value than monetary value. The stamps shown in your pictures are common even in perfect condition.

The stamps on the full envelopes (as long as they aren't mildewy or rotten -- nobody will pay anything for mildewy or rotten stuff), will certainly have more value than they would off the original envelopes. But I would not get my hopes up for any kind of a windfall.

Don't get your hopes up. Honestly, nothing shown so far is worth more than a penny.

Yes, there's a chance you may have some rare variety, but realistically, there's a better chance of getting hit with a meteor on a Sunday morning between 8 and 9 am.

Also, nothing you've shown so far matters whether they're on an envelope or not, including the ones you've already taken off

If your old letters are from businesses and have nice letterheads, they'll bring a few bucks (sometimes more) on eBay..
