To commemorate the International Year of Light 2015 and the Noble Prize 2013 for computational chemistry to Israeli scientists, Israel issued on February 10, 2015, the following stamp depicting a three dimensional model of the Rhodopsin protein molecule. This protein, expressed in the light sensitive cells in the human retina, binds retinal, a small light sensitive molecule. The left side of the stamp depicting the Schrödinger equation, which is the most fundamental tool of quantum mechanics: The stamp tab depicting the light sensitive cells in the human retina, rods and cones, responsible for black-and white and color visions, respectively.  |
