Wow, blcjr, you must have found that pretty quickly. I tried Googleing all sorts of things and didn't think to look in Google Books. When you go to the Directory of Indiana Airports, and search it, you are only allowed to see a few lines, but by modifying my search just a bit, I was able to put together the whole entry. What is interesting is that the Directory has a 1949 date, and the airport wasn't dedicated until 1951

This recent acquisition arrived in the mail a few days ago.

What does the DPO cancellation mean? Diplomatic Post Office, Dead Post Office, Discontinued Post Office? Hope someone will put me straight. Thanks.

Hi gslaten:

Nice cover!

I have a Cleveland cancelled cover (not airmail) with DPO in the dial. The write-up says that DPO is the abbreviation for Depot Post Office. No source for where that information came, so may be incorrect. A second guess would be Downtown Post Office.

Thanks 22crows. That thread is very helpful. Didn't think to look for an earlier thread myself.

According to one post on that thread, the DPO postmark seems to be common only to early Cleveland postmarks. I lean toward the Depot Post Office designation.

Other opinions welcome.
