The Iriomote cat (Prionailurus iriomotensis; also, Mayailurus iriomotensis) is a wild cat about the size of a domestic cat that lives exclusively on the Japanese island of Iriomote. It is considered a "living fossil" by many biologists because it has not changed much from its primitive form. Here is an image of a stamp depicting an Iriomote cat, combined engraved and lithogravure, and issued by Japan on March 25, 1974, Scott No. 1170.

scifi7,

Nice cats..I like the way you scan on the black background. That is bringing out the stamp really well...

Also checked your profile. You are English and working in Thailand?
Also checked stamps with speed boats but could not find any!

I am checking out. See you next time. Will scout for cats...

D = dalasi

The dalasi is the currency of the Gambia. It is subdivided into 100 bututs. The dalasi was adopted in 1971. It replaced the Gambian pound at a rate of 1 pound = 5 dalasi, i.e., 1 dalasi = 0.2 pound = 4 shillings. (Wiki) [Prior to 1971 they used pounds, shillings & pence]
