A few months ago I opened a letter that came to me and cut out the stamp to keep. I later realized, upon closer examination, that the stamp was a misprint or freak. Of course, now I wish I had kept the entire envelope :-)

Scott #4963 (A3816) USA Stars and Stripes issue for 2015.

I have done some research and can't find any other issues with this mistake. Anyone have any ideas? Is it rare?

The photo below shows the misprint on the bottom left and the other 3 stamps are the originals in the series.

bjrnet, welcome to the forum. That is a nice find. Congratulations,
I was going to send you an Email privately, but I do not want to go against your wishes. I would like to ask you to mail a scan of this to the folks of http://pnc3.org , the plate number coil website.

bjrnet,

I have not seen one like it and I REALLY like it. It shows the area between the stamps that is in what is called the matrix area that gets removed from between the stamps (if you don't have a mint strip, there are spaces between the stamps). I would have guessed there was some white space in that area, but this proves the designs butt up against each other.
