This China International Famine Relief charity label intrigued me greatly, as I had never seen one before....

There was a USA-based China Famine Relief Fund in the 1920's which likely issued these labels.

Does anyone know anything more about them? I spoke with a few Cinderella collectors; only one has seen them but never tied to a cover......this one bears a New York, NY receiving cancel dated 1930.

The only thing I could find is that China International Famine Relief Fund was established in 1923, and issued 4 different relief stamps during 1924 to 1930's. This is one was issued in 1925?

But since the one you show here is a Roessler cover, virtually anything is possible!

Here is the FRONT of the Roessler cover I have (good detective work,51studebaker!):

My initial scan was a close up of the reverse side, seen here in its entirety:

I found more similar labels on a reverse envelope cover offered by Siegel Auctions; seems
A.J. Roessler kept busy mailing these back from China.....these are postmarked 1926; mine were received in NYC in January 1930. Maybe Mr. Roessler travelled extensively; possibly he had assistance sending his covers back to New Jersey/New York. Either way I am sure he'd be tickled knowing that collectors nearly a century later would be discussing his philatelic exploits!

Bumping this 2017 thread for the link to the even older thread and the info provided. Have this stamp and your older thread seems to be the most complete info available online on this stamp. Submit image to the forum for the benefit of those who may have never seen one before.

Thanks. The stamp selected as my avatar promotes stamp collecting. Today sells for about $1. Unfortunately the image size has been reduced to make the text on the stamp unreadable. Poor planning on my part.

Serendipity,
arrived over my desk today. I had no idea these were "Famine" stamps.
Albeit, the example with opt, may have been another use.
