The worn 168 is not wide enough. The 88 of Port Macquarie is a chance at this stage. |

The only other numeral in the 160s that would qualify is a 161 of Aberdeen. The others were all superseded by 3R16 types, except 169 of course.
If it is a 161 it'd be the worst strike I've ever seen from there.
What about a 290 of Michelago? |

Quote: What about a 290 of Michelago? That's the right size and type but the first number still looks more like a 3 than a 2. |

I think we've long established that these numerals can be deceiving. Please excuse the amateur effects |

It's a strong possibility and probably the most feasible at this stage. I'll keep an eye out for more. |

Quote: The worn 168 is not wide enough. Curious Does it follow, that if the same numeral appears on a Star and a barred cancelling hammer, then the corollary is that the size or the numeral should be identical? I would have thought they would always differ. |

Any numeral that appears in a star (or more correctly, rays) pattern that subsequently had a barred arrangement will always look different in every respect. Take these five from Bathurst for example. There were 15 different numeral devices used at Bathurst and, apart from types 1 & 2 and types 9 and 10, they're all very different. NB: Freeman types 14 and 15 (both duplex devices) are the same numeral but the datestamp was altered. |

Quote: if the same numeral appears on a Star and a barred cancelling hammer Rod222, Although the strike on my stamp appears to have bars, I suggest that is a consequence of the blurred/overinked/worn rays. This graduated animation shows that the position of the markings on the subject stamp align with the position of the rays on the clearer 290 strike: |

We need a tutorial Quote: I suggest that is a consequence of the blurred/overinked/worn rays.
Right! I completely missed that. |

Great use of technology fairdinkumstamps.
A little beyond my reach I must say, only insofar as I haven't used a slideshow program for this sort of thing before. I didn't even know it could be done! |

Amazing, Thank you very much FDS. Never used Powerpoint prior, This will be a steep learning curve. What amazes me is the ability to reduce down to SCF format. I have used Giffmaker, many time before, but getting below 200Kb was always tough.
