The digits are too tall to be an 1871. From Freeman's book: |

Bobby, I have great respect for your opinion, however the "too tall" argument fails to convince me. (Damaged) Numerals look appropriate size to me. I do agree not the same Pmk as 1871, the "Oval" shape does not correspond. The oval is "pointy" in FDS's examples. |

I don't believe the numerals are damaged Rod, just very poorly inked.
Even Freeman's example isn't brilliant, but clearly legible enough. |

I must add, the "4" is extraordinary, large body, short leg
A quantum leap from the smudged Pmk of FDS.

Short legged 4s (new terminology right there!) aren't uncommon, among both the ray types and the second barred types. |

I know it is not a NSW numeral but I couldn't find an example of this three-ringed oval with a thick outside line in J S White. Can I have assistance in identifying this cancel please? |

Quote: Short legged 4s (new terminology right there!) aren't uncommon, among both the ray types and the second barred types. Illuminating knowledge. Had me pondering, so much "in depth" knowledge like this from seasoned collectors, must get lost on the passing of these specialists collectors. Why I am a huge fan of the private "monographs" papers, often produced. For example Mogens Juhl for Western Australia |

Not just a damaged / worn "NSW" in 3 oval rings? Then I found this... |
