It seems unusual to find 2 x valuable stamps.

I once bought 5 or 6 Australian mini-sheets from a dealer in Montreal (he had about 20 in stock) with the same documented variety. My guess is that APO divided multiple sheets at a time rather than individually, so mini-sheets in a particular position would be distributed together.

Unissued stamps that were sold illegally.

@Rene - no worries! I will suggest you accept Rods most generous gift... as I know for certain you will find very few of those nice 1945-50 issues in the material I sent you Many of them are missing in my own album as well, just as you once said - can't have them all

Jon and Johan,
thank you very much for taking the time to scan your catalogues.
Very much appreciated.

Interesting to note Michel did not have a copy of the 3 pfennig to include in the catalogue.

Hello Rod,

i will try my best at translating the vignet, it is a bit of a rough translation, but here I go.

It is a vignet that confirms payment of membership fee.

Top line: Membership vignet. (proof of membership payed).

To the right the adres in Vienna.

number behind Vienna: Vienna is divided in sections(Bezirke) it is a complicated system, people from outside Vienna do not get it. A lot of people from Vienna also struggle.

To the left: Adminstrative section of Der universal Anzeiger(Magazine issued by a Austrian society of philatelistic groups)

Bottom: probably the Name of one of the members of the Universal Anzeiger group.

As I said a crued attempt, I am sure some other members will chip in.

Kind regards,

Johan.

Thank you very much, Johan.
Saved.

I had a blurred sense of something similar, but I have not met with such a cinderella before.

The Vignette of "Justice" does not seem to fit either.

Thanks for having a crack at it, I put you comments in my album page.

Very nice labels Rod.

I remember visiting the Hofburg in Vienna many years ago!

I agree that the second label as a membership stamp or receipt, and I believe this was for the International Protection League for Philatelists, Vienna.

I guess this was a group of some kind based at the offices of the Universal Anzeiger at the address on the right and that the figure of Justice demonstrates protection.

Maybe this was an insurance scheme or a group for information sharing regarding rogue dealers/collectors etc?

That's what I got when I Transgooglelated, that didn't make sense.

You are probably correct (as you usually are)
..........and the "Justice" vignette thus ties.

Still, a very unusual item.
Perhaps fournier and all the other Rakes were at work at the time.

Here's a souvenir postcard from the 1953 Vienna Trade Fair.

The card is from a large Italian shipping firm with strong historical links with Austria.

The firm is now called Italia Marittima, for most of the last century it was called Lloyd Triestino, but orginally it was Österreichischer Lloyd (Austrian Lloyd) based in Trieste in Austro-Hungary.

Here's part of the other side showing the Austrian stamp, the Trade Fair postmark from 1953 and labels from the 1952 and 1953 fairs:

The rest of the card is blank.

The labels are quite understated but I like the dash of colour in the red and white of Austria.

I have two more Weiner Messe cinderellas:

I see these two are from spring fair dates. I don't know if this was a scheduling change or if Vienna had both spring and autumn trade fairs like Leipzig.

I'd love to see more from other years if anyone can show them.
