Need help with a watermark or unusual letter on back of stamp

Well it's unsusal to me, maybe not to someone who is experienced! I have a stamp with the letter A and possibly I or T on the back. Hopefully you can see in the images. Does anyone know what it is? I haven't seen one before.
The A I think can be seen fairly easily in the photo, the I or T is to the RH side on the top RH corner but not so easy to see in the image.

It's the watermark from the edge of the sheet, which had the word 'POSTAGE' in double-lined capitals. See here:
