It must have been fun for Queen Elizabeth to visit Tuvalu in 1982. She was carried on a small throne on a canoe for the procession and for returning to the Britannica. The Isle of Man used one of these photos for their stamp of 2017.

The New Hebrides Condominium (now Vanuatu) commemorated the Queen's visit in 1974 on stamps for her Silver Jubilee in 1977. She carried her own parasol. The British and the French shared the motive of the stamps.

Happy Umbrella Day to all who would like something to celebrate today!

London photographer Max Ellis succeeded in posing squirrels with various objects, but getting one to pose in the rain was difficult. Ellis' solution? Coating the umbrella in sunflower seeds and peanut butter before hanging it on fishing line.

In this stamp of a ceremonial parade with an elephant in Laos one sees three different kinds of umbrella: the large royal type, two many-tiered symbolic ones and a simple one like a parasol. 1994

Greetings Rod! K.

This earlier stamp features a Laotian parade elephant carrying a beautifully crafted ceremonial object, perhaps a palanquin, with a many-tiered umbrella. 1958

One in a set of four stamps featuring Thai murals; for the Heritage Conservation Day 2017. It looks like a royal procession, complete with umbrella, for an important person in a chariot drawn by four helpers. Maybe someone knows where this particular mural is located.

The Tang Monk Xuanzang (Hsuen Chuang) has already been shown on a People's Republic of China stamp on page 11. Here he is shown on a Taiwanese stamp of 1970. His umbrella is mounted on his backpack.
