For the new millennium Micronesia issued a large set of souvenir sheets documenting achievements of the past. One sheet documents Chinese accomplishments - one stamp in it shows how an umbrella is made. 1999.

In the old days, when not everyone, especially women, did not have enough schooling to write or read a letter, they went to the public scribe. He often had a table on the marketplace or a wee shop close by. San Marino 2002, part of a set featuring traditional occupations.

Valda cough drops are effective against sore throat and hoarseness. The gentleman with the umbrella suggests that the drops are especially necessary in chilly, wet weather. poster stamps. The drops can still be had almost anywhere.

A couple of courting cats in the rose garden - part of a set of stamps issued by Mauretania (or an agency for Mauretania) with the subject of cat fairy tales, in 2002. It looks like a Rotary cogwheel at the upper left.

Isn't this a pretty picture of harmony under an umbrella? It decorated match boxes originally made in Japan, 1930s, and is still a popular collectible. Photo of Japanese pigeon. I hope you don't mind an extra, non-philatelic picture.

The umbrella is a symbol of protection - safety matches patented in Sweden in 1844. They could be lit only on the box itself. The umbrella also symbolizes protection from rain - they can be lit even when wet.

The birds on the willow twigs are bullfinches.

This might be the 6th time Monet's 'Lady with the Parasol' has been shown. This time the artist is taking a rest on a big blue sofa (I wonder if he had one) in his flower garden with the arched bridge. Monet 1840-1926, for 90 years after he died; an agency souvenir sheet.

I came across this whilst searching "embossing" sheesh.......
A bit creepy, but I could not, not post.

Amol cough drops and a much larger umbrella would help the above gentleman protect his lovely curls and he wouldn't need to pinch his nose like that! And he could get the drops even today.
