Two of the values in Norway's 1988-91 "Nature" series of 9 definitive stamps depict birds. The 2.90 kr. stamp (Facit #1024) shows a male western capercaillie, or wood grouse in calling position. It was issued on February 18, 1988.
The 3.20 kr. stamp (Facit #1079) depicts a mute swan (Cygnus olor). This stamp was issued on February 23, 1990. The cancel on this stamp is from the village of Vestby. From Wikipedia, "Archaeological research has confirmed that the area has been populated since about 2400 B.C. ...Many Norwegian emigrants went to America in the 1840's and later settled in the area of Westby, Wisconsin, a city which still has a mostly Norwegian American population."
