The Eurasian Capercaillie (Tetrao urogallus), issued for use in Tuva on April 4, 1934. This is the first stamp in the world shows this species:

The bird genus Balearica, called the crowned crane, contains two extant species: the black crowned crane (B. pavonina) and the grey crowned crane (B. regulorum). Here is a small selection of stamps shows both species:

Laos issued many bird sets but this one of Herons is certainly my favorite. It was issued on August 1, 2001 for the stamp exhibition in Tokyo:

Intermediate Egret (Egretta intermedia)

Up-to-date there are 58 pages in this topic relating to our feathered friends, from birds of paradise to the humble Wren that once adorned the reverse side of the British farthing.

Here is a stamp depicting a working bird that was often used to carry messages during the first world war 1914 - 18, an apt bird to decorate this airmail stamp of Switzerland, first issued on the 5th of July 1930.

These stamps were printed in sheets of 25 with a total quantity issued of only 200,000 of this 2 franc stamp.
