G'day all,

Does anyone know of a website or other source of information regarding the various sheet markings on the King Edward VIII stamp margins?

Stanley Gibbons does mention them though not even the latest 4 Kings covers the subject in any detail.

I have done Google searches with all the combinations of Great Britain King Edward VIII postage stamps, sheet markings, printers marks etc. without success.

Scans show some of the types of mark I mean.

Any help gratefully received.

Regards.
Ron.

Thanks for the response, and yes I do have that saved and a fantastic site it is too.
Have been looking at the C.M offers but really I am after more information about the exact use of the marks. It seems to be one of the 'odd' topics about which information is hard to find.
Regards.
Ron

Gibbons does give an explanation for these marks but you need to look in the QE2 pre-decimal issues Specialised catalogue for the information.
For those without the catalog at hand... the "arrow" shape is a Marginal Arrow and assists in the breaking up of a complete sheet into halves or quarters.
The numbers is the Sheet Number and can occur anywhere on the sheet for checking and counting purposes.
The circular punched hole in the square box is the Perforation Guide Hole.

Scotzm

Thanks for that and I have had a look at the pre-decimal catalogue as you suggested and it does have better information than the 4 Kings.

I am corresponding with another KE8 fanatic and we are trying to get a bit deeper into the placings and styles of all the marks.

I had not thought of that catalogue though, which does help.
Regards
Ron
