Hello everyone.
I just joined the forum. I wanted to post a pic of a card I just got. I have been looking for this one for a while. It is a pic of our main drag (22nd avenue) looking south. This is what the street looked like before they built the 16 story Threefoot building that stands on the spot today. The mercantile building on the right of the card is the Threefoot Brothers Mercantile.
I have enjoyed looking through everyone's posts here in the Post Card forum.

Thanks for looking everyone!

Mike

Welcome Mike. Great card, and another interesting cancel, What does the "TRANS." mean?

Thanks for the welcome.....
Not exactly sure but I thought maybe "Transit Clerk"...
I have one other card that has a Meridian cancel that shows "TRANS.CLERK" on it.
Maybe someone with a better knowledge of cancels can chime in.

Trans Clerk = Transfer Clerk

Here is a summary of the clerk's duties from a 1941 postal publication about the Railway Mail Service. (The Postal Laws and Regulations volumes also describe the duties, but not so concisely, so I opted to scan this source.)

WOW... thanks for posting that. Now we know for sure.
Meridian had a lot of railroad history in the early years. So a railroad "Transfer Clerk" would fit right in with Meridian history.

Here is another card I have with the Transfer Clerk cancel. The old Meridian post office...... I like it better than the new one.

Thanks.... Yes, Meridian can be nice. There is a lot of small town atmosphere here. I have enjoyed collecting the post cards with historic views and learning about our early history.
