Cheaper than real tulips?! As in, "I gave my wife/girlfriend/significant other 20,000 tulips!" Of course, we don't know the reserve price, so that might not be correct...

Whilst stamp-collecting is a more or less enjoyable way of wasting time, that's taking it to the extreme. I see the binder is "volume 8" - hate to think of what the full collection consisted of. |

I started collecting due to this rate change. Seeing old 4c stamps used for make up rate caught my attention. I have a special fondness of this stamp. I would go to my local post office lobby vending machine, put in 30 cent increments and get coils of F Rate Tulip and a 1c Omnibus. Nothing takes me back to the root of my collecting like this stamp. I love this stamp. And I will not be bidding... |

There's a story there. Maybe funny, maybe not so much.
I recall a section in one of Stephen Datz's books where he visited a widow who was selling her late husband's stamp collection. She handed him a tiny book with just a few pages. After he asked "where's the rest of the collection", she took him out to the garage and showed him a swimming pool full of used common US stamps. There are a lot of quirky stories in this hobby. |

A lot of work to destroy that much postal history. Granted, most of the covers would have not much more than BTU value, but some were no doubt quite good. |

I was just going to ask txstamp's question. There are several main varieties of these stamps, like sheet, coil, perforated etc. The picture of the album is not good enough for me to see if any main varieties are present,

I think geoffha's description fits best here: wasting time.
Apparently, all 20,000 of these stamps were soaked and hinged onto the pages. Cannot imagine who would, or could do this...or why.

I've seen albums full of one stamp before, but never been able to ask the collector why they did it. ERR... I hesitate to admit that last saturday I bought a book with only two varieties of GB 1940 stamp centenary stamps. They cost about 50 cents and unless I see any good reason to save some they will actually be used in a collage. This is what I plan to use my very surplus Machins for as well. |

Yea, I have several hundred penny reds, and numerous other similar accumulations ... so I have to be careful about pointing fingers. |
