These 1958 DDR (East Germany) "Central Courier Service" official administrative mail stamps use letter codes in front of six-digit numbers to indicate the cities of origin.

From Michel Deutschland-Spezial catalog, "The introduction of a Central Courier Service was a measure to secure the dispatch and delivery of the internal service mail of important authorities and industrial companies."

Here is a cover bearing the two lowest values of the DDR's first "Central Courier Service" official administrative mail stamps issued on April 1. 1956. All five stamps of this set (5, 10, 20, 40, and 70 pf) are black, and all are of the same design.

On May 22, 2005 Estonia issued a 4.40 kr/28c gray brown stamp (Sc #546) of very minimal design. These stamps were sold with attached labels depicting the Tallinn skyline. Then, on February 22, 2006 an identically-designed 5.50 kr/35c blue green stamp (Sc #563) was issued with a label depicting Tartu University (label not shown here).

These stamps could be ordered with personalized images on the labels, such as the 5.50 kr stamp shown here with "Christmas Castle Tartu" on the label.

On April 1, 1957 the DDR issued its third series of Central Courier Service (ZKD) official administrative mail stamps as a set of four values (10, 20, 40, and 70 pf). These stamps are overprints of the second series of ZKD official administrative mail stamps. They are "with black or violet printing of control numbers by means of rubber roller by hand" (Michel).

Here is the 20 pf stamp (Mi. #11). The "1500" control number is for Karl-Marx-Stadt (Chemnitz).
