I cannot get any better pictures but I'm pretty sure this is an 88. Can anyone help confirm?

Looks like you are probably correct. The best way to examine the grill is from the back. Before somebody tells you to rub some dirt on it please flip the stamp over and cast oblique lighting on the stamp like you have done on the front. There is a twist though, turn the stamp 45 degrees so that the light is crossing over the grill points diagonally. It makes counting the vertical rows so much easier. You should have 14 vertical rows for an E grill.

You should at least turn the stamp 90 degrees so that the light shines down the vertical rows instead of across them.

With the stamp being on-cover, it is best to look down the vertical rows with the oblique lighting also shining down the vertical rows. In other words, the light should be in front of you.
