I am one of those collectors who still collect modern U.S.and use an album to display my collection. I sometimes remove self- adhesive stamps from its original backing paper and place the stamp on paper from another stamp. Example: double sided booklet single. This seems to be the only way to separate the stamp from the booklet without damaging the dye-cuts. Am I creating a new stamp condition (M.N.O.O.P.)? And does anyone else do this ?

Personally, I would never S.T.O.O.P. to removing the original backing paper. Wait, is that another new stamp condition? - Stamp Transfered Off Original Papier. You might end up with singles that will end up fingerprinted, damaged perfs, or stamps that continiously peel back away from paper. Why not buy the 3 month packages of die-cut singles, or year sets, similar to what the philatelic branch does in Canada. And you end up with a variety that is less common and usually catalogues more, but is easier on your time as well as your pocketbook. |

The US does not supply die cut singles the way Canada does.
If you want a stamp still on original backing paper (and without having the perf tips exposed, which yo get if you try to tear or slice the backing paper around the stamp), you need to remove the stamps around the stamp you want to save. |

Take the pane, pay the bills, use the stamps, leaving one on the pane. Cut evenly on all sides and you have your single. |

Too bad they don't do that for collectors. Would definately make life easier for collecting the singles. Maybe it's time for someone on the stamp advisory board to make that kind of recomendation. Have to push that from the collectors base up to the top, but will they listen? |

Stampman, that would cost a small fortune, and you would have to have a pile of bills to mail. They want everything done online nowadays! |

I'm a software developer and I never pay bills online and never will until a gun is put to my head (i.e., use stamps). |

I think all of my utility etc bills are paid by direct debit. The only bill I still pay by cheque is my credit card bill. I still receive the odd cheque in payment, but that's about it. |

The only bills I pay by check are to local services who don't accept electronic payments. All my other monthly bills (power, water, sewage, Internet, etc.) all accept either credit card autopay, ACH autopay, or ACH one-time payments).
Back to the original question raised, I personally would say that a mint stamp removed from its backing paper and placed upon other paper is now "used but uncanceled". It's no longer a mint stamp. |

Good luck with MNOOP.
I created UXBOS (Unexploded Booklet, Original Staple), but it seems to be going nowhere, fast.
Ain't got no checks. I enter the details online, and my bank cuts the check & mails it ... I never touch the stuff.
Cheers,

Not used but rather the self-adhesive cousin of hinged. |

I disagree. Since it is now fully adhered to paper, it no longer has gum. It HAS been used, just not canceled. A hinged stamp (in most cases) still has its original gum intact. |
