My former husband left me stamps that he had been collecting since he was in high school. Some, obviously used, are in albums, others are in clear packets and some are loose in letter envelopes. I am not a stamp collector even though some of the stamps are intriguing.
I would like to inventory these stamps so I can sell them. I realize that used stamps placed in albums probably do not have much value, but all the stamps, especially the unused stamps, should be inventoried.
I have looked online for stamp inventory forms, but I have not liked what I have seen. How about the inventory programs that I have seen online? Can anyone give me some advice? I live in a rural area and am not near any stamp appraisers. Thank you.

Hello,

I would search this forum using the Search button above for " inherited collection" and you will find a lot of info on that topic.

Best of luck!

grannybabe,

If you are talking about USA stamps, Google Mystic Stamp company and obtain a free catalog. Each stamp is assigned a "Scott" number. Then Google the Scott number in eBay to determine prices offered and prices realized.

Cannot recommend doing an inventory. Difficult and time consuming and just not that informative. Condition plays a large role. Stamps need to be looked at by a collector, stamp club,or auction house type situation.

It is quite possible that the used stamps in the album are worth more than the unused stamps. Most unused United States stamps issued in the last 70 years are worth face value or less.
If the album is organized by country, take a picture or two of the first page of a few countries, e.g Denmark, France, Great Britain, Japan, etc and post them on the forum. You could also take a some pictures of what is in the various envelopes.
