It appears that only "bank-notes" is still up and running as Philip Ryle approaches sentencing for his fraud conviction.

"numis_phil*" is a new name I hadn't seen before, but there are no active lots under this name.

Lot 263903580833 ended 27 Sep, but I am pretty sure it didn't start under that name.

This is the new name for the old "xfstamps" which changed on 21 Sep and was still trying to sell off the same lots under the 3rd or 4th eBay name.

Several of these lots all came from a revenue collection won at auction and split up. I was bored and tracked several of these to see where they would go and who the shill bidders were.

rogdcam,
There still are hundreds of eBay listings under several cartel names as of this morning.

For those folks who still like to buy from and support this convicted felon, here is where you can now find him...in HMP Bristol, the Category B men's prison located in the Horfield area of Bristol.

Ryle was been sentenced to 3 years, 8 months this week. He is also banned as company director through 2023. The court will be holding another hearing concerning the confiscation of any proceeds for his crimes.

I don't see any "personal attacks" in this thread unless calling a convicted felon a "convicted felon" is a personal attack now.

Drew,
You are not seeing the personal attack becuase it was removed.

All,
Here is a newspaper article which outlines Ryle (aka British Cartel) and his crimes. Incredibly, there are those among us who will continue to deal with him thinking they can 'pick out the good deals'.

So they only have basically tax evasion to nail him on? I can't believe his money laundering hasn't been caught. They even mention what should be a huge red flag in their report.

"He used one of these Rare Stamps Associates Ltd to buy hundreds of stamps from outside of the EU, and sell them at vastly increased prices to another of his companies, UK Philatelics Ltd. "

Laundering money means that he would have had some other illegal source of income (ie. drug dealing, prostitution, etc.) and then running the illegal income through a business to make it look legitimate (clean). This was not what he was doing. This was financial fraud...cooking the books and then beating the British government out of large amounts of money.

Damn, I'd make a crappy criminal. So if I understand this correctly his stamp fraud business was just to claim a refund on value added taxes?

Ian Billings posted this explanation and I'll repeat it here since it is a good summary on how this works in the UK...

Quote:
If company A sells (in this case at inflated prices) to company B and charges VAT, and company B's sales happen to be all exported outside the EU, the VAT paid by company B on purchases is greater than the tax collected from customers on sales, so company B can recover the net VAT paid from HMRC. This is what happened. This would not hurt the tax collecting efforts if the tax charged by company A was paid to HMRC as it should have been, but it was not, thus the authorities were defrauded.

Bottom line, and given his other past criminal activities, he commits fraud at every level and has absolutely no qualms about breaking any laws or ethical boundaries in taking advantage of others.

I think that it is safe to say that no part of Mr Ryle's activities would fall into the category of "regular".

He'll more than likely be released after serving half his sentence.

As least two of his seller accounts are up and running on Ebay with one of them having new items listed on 2 October and specifying his location as the one in the newspaper article. He is obviously not going away.
