This will be of interest to anyone who collects Canadian Excise Stamps.

In the mail today was a new information card put out to residents of Nova Scotia, Canada regarding the cannabis act coming into effect on October17, 2018. No doubt similar information cards were mailed to residents of other provinces in Canada.

Of note was the 3rd paragraph noting that
"Legal cannibis has an excise stamp appearing in different colors for each province and territory on product labels."

The image of the N.S. stamp is also attached. As well as other information from the government website showing the stamps and explaining them and security features.

Mike

I do not know or believe that any of these stamps will have any values on them or weight in grams. The packagers of products will apply the stamps and will be responsable to pay the duty and taxes as per weight/and type of product and I believe the Number on the stamp will be the unique identifier.

Here is an Ontario one from a bottle of Cannabis oil. I auctioned it off on eBay. You'll see front, back and how it is affixed to the bottle. https://www.ebay.com/itm/362487228363
It was extremely hard to get off the bottle., The gum (thick grey glue) is very sticky, even after removal. Perhaps it could be soaked off in warm water, but not hot.

Wow. Great info. For what you sold the stamp for, you can go buy a joint and get high! LOL

That is great. You would cover the cost of a Fantasy Island Pre Roll with money left over simply by selling the excise stamp!

In California the grower pays 9.25 an ounce to the manufacture
The retailer pays 15% excise tax on a mandatory 60% markup to the manufacturer
Plus a state and local 7.50 % 4%
Our country's are ran by the same world order, not the peoples will

This is very interesting to me as I'm expanding my collection to include U.S. federal and state cannabis tax stamps. I'm going to have to keep an eye out for these on the auction sites to see if any pop up. Thanks!

I just - ahem - acquired a couple of these Ontario excites stamps. As mentioned above the glue is very sticky. Any ideas the best way to store? Soaking in warm water was suggested.
Or perhaps adhering to a piece of acid free or even wax paper?

James, either adhere to the backing of a booklet or carefully roll the glue off of the stamp with your finger. The former is best as the stamp's paper is very thin and soft, tearing easily. Paul
