I've been noticing several different backstamps on many of my Match & Medicine stamps and have always wondered about them. I was hoping folks may have information about some of them. One is obvious as the b/s is the name and initials:

The rest are not:

I have an old album page with a hand written note that indicated this was "Lewis Robie"?

This is interesting because the "HHH" appears to be stamped over "GSD". And speaking of "GSD":

Though it looks like "G, S. D."?

More initials:

Home on the range with "Circle S":

or a Diamond 'E':

A star and cross:

This last one is very neat, though I can't make out all of the letters:

Any ideas?

Very common thing back in the day. Henry Holcombe was a very important collector and writer on M&M's. His Patent Medicine Tax Stamps is required literature for the serious M&M collector.

Right, I meant to add a smily after my comment about the first one being obvious.

Some time ago I bought a large collection of Match stamps and a good percentage of them had the Holcombe b/s.
