Hi all,

fount this 804 on a western union telegram cover.
the dignal lines in the stamp itself are a scanner thing, in real live not there.

never seen this before, and I have a few questions:

1. why have a postage stamp on a telegram?
2. was this common practice
3. is this to be considered a normal "on cover" or not??

thank you all in advance for your help

Message received at destination telegraph office, printed then mailed. Common practice.

The uncommon part of this cover is a fairly late use of the 1 cent local letter rate at an office *not* having carrier service - thus picked up at the Reidsville, GA post office as a general delivery letter. Desirable to Prexie or rate collectors.

value: depends on whether one is trying to buy, sell or insure it. If you are asking to list it on eBay, then start it for a few dollars and let the marketplace tell you. Retail pricing postal history is an art.
