Jajce Fortress is a medieval citadel on top of a steep hill, with 1,300 meters long walls protecting the old town of Jajce. It is one of the best preserved fortified capitals of the Bosnian Kingdom.

Ostrozac Castle is located outside the town of Cazin in northwestern Bosnia and Herzegovina. The castle and its walls dates back to the 13th century and was rebuilt several times.

On January 28, 2009 Serbia issued this 55 dinar, tourism-themed stamp (Mi #276) depicting Kalemegdan or Belgrade fortress, which was first constructed by the Romans.

From Serbia.com, "The Belgrade fortress, built on a white ridge above the (confluence of the Sava and Danube) Rivers, destroyed and rebuilt over and over for 16 centuries, still stands as a symbol of Serbia's capital."

Photo shows panoramic view of the fortress complex from the river.

Walls of Timoleontee are fortifications of the ancient Greek city of Gela on the island of Sicily. The 400 meters long sandstone walls were built by colonists from Rhodes and Crete in 689 BC.

Pghndzahank Fortress (X-XIII century A.D.) is located in the village of Akhtala in Lori region. The fortress protected the north-western regions of Armenia (Gugark) and is among the most well preserved of all in modern Armenia.

Golconda Fort is a fortified citadel and an early capital city of the Qutb Shahi dynasty (c. 1512–1687), located in Hyderabad, Telangana. It consists of four distinct sections with a total of 10 km long outer wall, 87 semicircular bastions (some still mounted with cannons), eight gateways, and four drawbridges.

Château du Taureau stands on a rocky islet at the entrance to the Bay of Morlaix in Brittany. The fortress was built in the 16th century and rebuilt by Vauban in 1745.

Fortress of Brod is located in Slavonski Brod, Croatia. The fortress was constructed in the 18th century by the Archduchy of Austria to create a defense against the Ottoman Empire. The regular star-like form of the fortress was built of rammed earth, bricks, wood and partially stone.
