The fort rises abruptly above the surrounding plains and is spread over an area of nearly 3 square kilometers. The walled complex includes a number of palaces, temples, towers, and gates.  |

Armenia Fortresses of Armenia September 13, 2022 Ghalinjakar Fortress is on a hilltop near the village of Berdavan in the Tavush Province, near the border with Azerbaijan. The 10th-13th century stone fortress was rebuilt in the 17th century.  |

Bosnia and Herzegovina (BH Post) Cultural Historical Heritage July 11, 2008 Ostrovica is located on a hill top above the village of Ostrovica. The 12th century fortress was a key stronghold defending the City of Zadar. The fortress was ruined after late 17th century.  |

Italy Artistic and Cultural Heritage November 25, 2016 Fort Bard is located in a narrow gorge above the Dora Baltea river, overlooking the entrance to the Aosta Valley in northwestern Italy. The current stone and concrete fortifications were built between 1830 and 1838. The fort was closed in the late 1990s and is now the Museum of the Alps.  |

Armenia Historic Capitals of Armenia April 29, 2009 Van Fortress is a massive stone fortification built by the ancient kingdom of Urartu in 9th century BC. It is founded on a rocky terrace on the eastern shore of Lake Van overlooking the ruins of Tushpa. The fortress was built from basalt blocks and mud bricks.  |

20 years ago, I was travelling on the Silk road, and I have been impressed by the city of Xhiva in Uzbekistan. Bukara, Smarkand were too nice, by the wall of Xhiva were huge  |
