The Kremlin is the old Russian name of the fortress, the citadel. Nizhny Novgorod Kremlin is one of the best preserved kremlins in Russia. The block depicts an episode of the arrival in Nizhny Novgorod of the Italian architect Pietro Francesco in 1509 to help with the work. The Kremlin in Nizhny Novgorod many times tried to take by storm, but it was never taken

So far, I haven't seen here the wonderful British castles stamps (with the Wilding portait) showing Carrickfergus (N. Ireland), Caernavon (Cymru/Wales), Edinburgh (Alba/Scotland) and Windsor (England) castles.

Fort Ross (the fort of the Russians) was the southernmost outpost of Russian settlers along what is now the California coast. At the beginning of the 19th century Americans and Russians had what might be called a joint venture to establish settlements along the west coast north of areas settled by Spaniards. When the Russians no longer needed the settlement, Fort Ross was sold to John Sutter and is now a restored historical monument. Original wood used for construction: Redwood.

Overview in stamp of 2012, Russian Chapel in the corner of the stockade, history plaque and blockhouse.

in Russia there are two Novgorod: Nizhny Novgorod and the Great Novgorod. In ancient times, he was called the Lord Great Novgorod. His possessions stretched from the Baltic Sea to the Urals. Novgorod was the oldest republic on the territory of Russia, where popular democracy existed until the 15th century.

Powerful fortress walls always surrounded the city and protected it from constant raids.

Since Novgorod began Russian statehood

The word "Novgorod" translates as "new city".and the Old Town was on the territory of the West Slavic lands Wagria, now it is Oldenburg in Holstein. In the 6-7 centuries, the ancestors of novgorodians moved to the east and founded the New City.

Now the Novgorod Kremlin is one of the oldest Russian fortresses preserved entirely.

During the war years, the Novgorod Kremlin was destroyed and looted by Spanish fascists.

The cross of Sophia was broken and exported to Spain.

They plundered and Novgorod Yuryev Monastery

Now the walls and temples of the Novgorod Kremlin have been restored and serve as the pride of Russian history.

There was a post office at Fort Ross, California from 23 May 1877 until 30 Nov 1928.
Here is a cover from Fort Ross, Cal 1884. Not mine, it is currently offered on ebay.

The Aurelian Walls of Rome were built in the 3rd century during the reign of Emperors Aurelian (on the horse!) and Probus. These walls were the second fortifications of the city - the earlier Servian Walls were no longer adequate. The Aurelian walls ran for 19 km, and were built of brick-faced concrete, 3.5 m thick and 8 m high, with almost 400 towers. In the 4th century, remodeling doubled the height of the walls to 16 m. There were 18 main gates.

Emperor Aurelian in gold pictured on a Swiss stamp. Those Aurelian Walls make a wonderful elevated hiking path through much of Rome. You can even walk inside some parts.
