Ávila is a Spanish fortified city located in the autonomous community of Castile and León in the Province of Ávila. It has complete and prominent medieval town walls built in the Romanesque style. The minisheet shows a portion of the walls.

Also located in the Avila province of Spain is the fortress of Mombeltran. Amazing stone walls and bastions! stamp of 1970.

Fortaleza Santa Tereza is a military fortification located 305 km northeast of Montevideo, in the Rocha Department of eastern Uruguay. The current structure was built by the Spanish crown in 1762.

Rupea Fortress is one of the most imposing and best-conserved medieval sites in Transylvania. Its three parts were built in different ages, the newer ones enclosing the top fortification most likely date from the 13th century.

Renaissance Walls of Lucca was built between 1545 and 1650 AD and has been preserved intact. It is one of the greatest example of modern fortification in Europe. The stamp depicts an aerial view of the walled city.

Venetian Walls are a series of defensive walls which surround the capital city of Nicosia in Cyprus. The first city walls were built in the Middle Ages, but they were completely rebuilt in the mid-16th century. The walls are still largely intact, and are among the best preserved Renaissance fortifications in the Eastern Mediterranean.
