I have this in my collection and I just do not know if having a #J2 stamp with this "2 Due" cancellation is a rare item. I can not find anything similar on a cover, but clearly the #J2 stamp was used like this, so there must be other similar covers.

Any thoughts?

.
The [Due 2] tells a clerk how much to collect.

The postage due stamp is proof that the postage due was paid.

Perhaps what would need explanation is only one of these being on a cover?

Cheers,

Not rare. Better than a written marking, but then it is from New York. The cancel on a due stamp is nice.

The strike on the stamp might just be a precancel using the same handstamp. Precancel pen lines are also fairly common on dues.

ikey,

thanks for your comments. The cover has two "Due 2" cancels. One is on the envelope paper and the other is directly on the stamp. It is hard to see the "Due 2" on the #J2 stamp. It is easy to see the "2" part of the cancellation on the stamp, but close examination shows that the stamp itself has a full "Due 2" cancellation.
